Capcom has an additional Mega Man project in development besides the recently announced Dual Override, according to a new rumor.
Known insider and Mega Man enthusiast Protodude took to Twitter/X to share that Mega Man: Dual Override has been in development on and off for a couple of years. He clarified that this isn’t the previously rumored Mega Man Taisen project. According to him, it was titled Mega Man 12 at one point.
Furthermore, the insider mentioned that Mega Man: Dual Override was originally planned to be announced earlier this year, as far back as Spring 2025. According to him, it is a keystone project for Mega Man’s 40th anniversary. He added that while it is not the only Mega Man project that Capcom has in development, it is a major one.
Capcom announced Mega Man Dual Override, the next mainline entry in the longstanding action platformer franchise, during The Game Awards 2025 in Los Angeles. The publisher confirmed that the title is scheduled for release in 2027 across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. This marks the 12th numbered installment in the series and the first major entry since Mega Man 11 in 2018.
The announcement was accompanied by a reveal trailer published on the official Mega Man YouTube channel. While the company outlined the platforms and release window, it has not yet provided detailed information on gameplay systems, narrative direction, or new mechanics beyond describing the project as an action platformer. Capcom stated that it will hold a fan participation event later this month, giving players the opportunity to submit designs for a new Robot Master that could appear in the final game. The publisher characterized the initiative as a community design contest hosted on a dedicated website.
