Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is the first of multiple games to be released in celebration of the series’ 40th anniversary.

During the recent State of Play presentation, Tsutomi Taniguch, Castlevania producer at Komani Digital Entertainment, announced that the newly revealed Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is the first of multiple titles to be released in celebration of the series’ 40th anniversary. The publisher has also relaunched the 40th Anniversary web portal for the series alongside a message from the production team.

In the aforementioned message, the Castlevania production team praised Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse developers Evil Empire and Motion Twin as the ideal studios to collaborate on the project, and referred to them as developers that are capable of capturing  the essence of the series while bringing fresh innovation with their talent and passion.

“The doors of Castlevania open once more. This year marks the 40th anniversary since the original ‘Akumajō Dracula’ first saw the light of day. In this commemorative year, “Castlevania” will be revived. First up is this title: ‘Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse’. We couldn’t think in other studios to work together rather than Evil Empire and Motion Twin, studios brimming with talent and passion, to deliver a new exploration-based 2D action game that captures the essence of Castlevania while bringing fresh innovation. This is the beginning of numerous new products around Castlevania. Look forward to the return of the magnificent “nightmare” lurking in the darkness.”

Castlevania belmont's curse

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a 2D action-exploration adventure set 23 years after the events of Castlevania: Dracula’s Curse. Developed by Konami in collaboration with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the game follows a new chapter in the legendary Belmont lineage. In the year 1499, Paris is engulfed as monstrous creatures suddenly emerge from the shadows. Armed with the legendary holy whip, the Vampire Killer, Trevor Belmont’s successor ventures into the burning streets and the looming castle to hunt down the beasts. Using the series’ iconic whip, players can move around freely like a trapeze artist. They will be required to master its mechanics and be creative to pounce on their prey like a wolf in fast-paced combat.
