CDPR Confirms Multiple “New Projects”; Cyberpunk 2077 To Get Major Update/Expansion in 2022

CD Projekt Red has confirmed a major update, expansion, and the next-generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 is all planned for 2022.

They recently disclosed their quarterly results and shared some of the insight behind their development cost and work when discussing their financial result.

“We are hard at work on the next-gen version of Cyberpunk, scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2022, alongside another major update for all platforms. There is also ongoing work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 and the Cyberpunk expansion, ” reads the statement shared by CD Projekt Red.

The Witcher 3 was already rated for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, but it might have received a delay due to the impact of COVID-19 on the development of the game. Netflix is releasing the second season of The Witcher TV series so it makes sense for CD Projekt Red to launch the upgrade this year, but it apparently didn’t work out.

When mentioning the decrease in net profit, they cited the work that they are conducting on their new projects along with the updating work that is happening for Cyberpunk 2077.

“This year-on-year reduction in net profit is mainly due to expenses related to updating Cyberpunk and exploratory work on new projects which are at an early stage of development.”

CD Projekt Red has again reiterated that they plan to launch The Witcher 3 Next-Generation upgrade in Q2 2022 and Cyberpunk 2077 Next-Generation upgrade in Q1 2022. This will be offered as a free upgrade to the existing owners. The slide above is from their fiscal presentation that gives an idea of what their internal teams are working on along with the updates to Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10, 2020, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game was criticized for launching in a broken state on consoles and later received numerous patches to improve its quality.
