Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc is nearing a major box office goal in the United States, with current earnings sitting at an estimated $41.2 million. This strong performance puts it less than three million dollars away from topping Pokémon The Movie 2000’s $43.7 million total, which is currently the fifth-highest-grossing anime film in U.S. history. Since projections suggest the film’s final domestic run will finish between $45 and $50 million, it looks set to break into the all-time top five.
In its fourth three-day weekend, the film pulled in $1.6 million. This was a 52.9 percent drop from the weekend before, even though the film lost 865 theaters. For some context, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 made $849 thousand under similar conditions, dropping 57.3 percent, while Demon Slayer: Mugen Train managed a $2 million weekend with only a 29.5 percent drop. Chainsaw Man’s staying power, even with a smaller number of theaters, clearly shows how interested both anime fans and general moviegoers are.
The movie is also still doing very well in Japan. For the November 14 to 16 weekend, it was the leader on the domestic charts with approximately $2.25 million, raising its total in Japan to around $56.8 million, or about 8.8 billion yen. Other top films included Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution at $2.1 million, which now totals $7.4 million, Bakudan at $1.6 million for a total of $9.5 million, and Kimetsu No Yaiba: Infinity Castle at one million for a remarkable $261.45 million overall.
Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc brings one of the most dramatic story arcs from the series to the screen. The plot follows Denji as he finds a rare moment of peace and a new connection with Reze, only to discover she is actually the Bomb Devil and an elite Soviet assassin sent to capture the Chainsaw Man’s heart.
As the film continues to climb the charts domestically and build its position overseas, Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc is proving to be one of the year’s most successful anime releases. With only a small difference separating it from Pokémon The Movie 2000, it could very soon earn its spot among the top five highest-grossing anime films ever released in the United States.
