Following the massive success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, another anime juggernaut is now taking the global box office by storm. Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc has rapidly become one of the highest-grossing anime films of all time, shattering records across multiple territories and setting new benchmarks for international anime releases. In just five days, the film has amassed $21.8 million in the United States, propelling it to seventh place among the top-grossing anime films ever released domestically.

The R-rated feature from Studio MAPPA, distributed globally by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures, has achieved extraordinary momentum since its late-October global rollout. Its $17.3 million opening weekend in the U.S. marked the third-biggest R-rated anime debut in history, trailing only behind Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. On its first Tuesday, Chainsaw Man delivered an impressive $2.1 million, a 21.4 percent increase from Monday, making it the second-largest Tuesday gross ever for an international film in U.S. history—surpassing Pokémon: The Movie 2000’s $1.9 million haul, and second only to Infinity Castle’s monumental $5.4 million performance.

The film’s domestic success is complemented by a remarkable international run. In Japan, Chainsaw Man has grossed approximately ¥7.2 billion ($47.3 million) to date, maintaining strong legs weeks after its premiere. In South Korea, it remains number one for the weekend of October 24–26, earning $1.63 million and bringing its local total to $19 million. The film also continues to perform exceptionally well across Taiwan ($6.1 million) and the United Kingdom, where it opened in third place with £1.1 million. These results contribute to a total worldwide gross of approximately $113 million, highlighting its breakout success and reaffirming the global appeal of MAPPA’s high-intensity adaptation.

Much of Chainsaw Man’s success stems from its combination of emotional storytelling, frenetic energy, and the growing international recognition of the manga and anime brand. The movie adapts the acclaimed “Reze Arc” (Bomb Girl Arc) from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga, following protagonist Denji as he becomes entangled in a volatile and tragic relationship with Reze, a mysterious woman who harbors deadly secrets. With its visceral action sequences and striking animation, the film has been hailed by critics as both a technical marvel and a bold step forward for the medium’s cinematic storytelling.

The film’s strong performance also reflects the rising global influence of anime in mainstream cinema. According to industry analysts, Chainsaw Man: The Movie is on track to surpass Dragon Ball Super: Broly’s $30.7 million U.S. run within days, potentially climbing to sixth place among all-time U.S. anime releases. Audience enthusiasm has remained consistent across regions, with word-of-mouth reviews praising its emotional intensity, fluid animation, and faithful adaptation of the source material.

Released in Japan on September 19, 2025, Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc expanded internationally in stages throughout late September and October. Its simultaneous presence across major global markets—bolstered by premium format screenings such as IMAX and 4DX—has helped sustain its strong box office legs. The film’s momentum mirrors the unprecedented success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, marking another milestone in what has become a record-breaking year for anime films worldwide.
