Kepler Interactive and Sandfall Interactive’s role-playing game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, already has the third-highest Game of the Year (GOTY) award tally compared to winners from other years.
According to data compiled by ResetEra forum members Angie and Neat, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already holds the third-highest GOTY award tally ever recorded for a single year, placing it among the most celebrated titles of all time. Based on an exhaustive tally from a wide range of global media outlets, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has amassed 291 awards, putting it just behind Elden Ring (435) and The Last of Us Part II (326), and ahead of Baldur’s Gate III (288), The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (281), and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (264). This is a major achievement for a new IP from a relatively new studio, especially given the competitive landscape of recent years.
What makes this accomplishment even more noteworthy is the game’s share of the total GOTY awards handed out in the year. In 2025, media outlets and awards ceremonies have announced 429 GOTY awards so far, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has claimed 291 of them, which is equivalent to 67.83% of all 2025 awards handed out thus far.
When compared with Game of the Year winners from prior years in terms of award share dominance, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ranks fourth overall. Only The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (87%), Street Fighter II on SNES (80%), and Elden Ring (70%) have achieved higher percentages. The role-playing game surpasses iconic titles such as The Witcher 3, the original Resident Evil 4, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Baldur’s Gate III, and God of War (2018) in this specific metric.
Contextualizing this further, modern years tend to have far more GOTY outlets than earlier eras. For example, 2020 saw a staggering 648 total GOTY awards, while 2023 and 2024 both exceeded 500. Achieving such a high percentage in an era with an expansive media landscape shows just how unified critical consensus has been around Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
