Concord Sales Have Reportedly Been Disappointing, Estimated To Be Around 25K Copies

Sales of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-person hero shooter, Concord, have reportedly been disappointing, with the number of copies sold estimated to be around 25,000.

IGN reached out to a number of analysts in order to gather insight on the sales performance of Concord. Liam Deane, principal analyst at Omdia, said, “The Steam numbers are so bad that even without the exact data on the PS5 side we can be pretty certain that the game is doing very badly.” Meanwhile, Mat Piscatella cited Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, saying, “Concord ranked 147th in US PS5 daily active players across all titles, with fewer than 0.2% of Monday’s active PS5 players playing the game.”

Furthermore, analyst GameDiscover.co’s Simon Carless estimated that Concord’s sales are around 10,000 units on Steam, and around 15,000 on PlayStation, bringing total sales to around 25,000 units.

As for the reason behind Concord’s disappointing sales performance, Midia Research analyst Rhys Elliott said, “making a fun, high-quality shooter is not enough in the oversaturated live-service space these days.” Circana’s Mat Piscatella said that the game suffered from “low awareness and purchase intent among video game players”. He further suggested that, as of July, 2024, Circana’s PlayerPulse shows that only a small percentage of players were aware that Concord existed in the first place. Joost van Dreunen, Meanwhile, NYU Stern professor and author of the SuperJoost newsletter, said, “while there has been trailers and some gameplay reveals for Concord, pre-launch promotion for the game appears to have been relatively limited.”

Regarding the game’s $40 price tag, Rhys Elliott said, “Launching Concord as a premium game limited its audience numbers and user acquisition. The more people who play a game, the more appealing it is. Network effects are crucial for building a healthy, engaged ecosystem. Concord should have launched free-to-play – or at least as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription – to have a fighting chance in its overcrowded genre.”
