Crash Bandicoot 5 was cancelled during development at a studio other than Toys For Bob, based on the latest information.

Character designer and illustrator Nicholas Kole, who previously worked on Crash Bandicoot 4 at Toys For Bob, took to Twitter/X to share that Crash Bandicoot 5 was in development at another studio, but the project was ultimately cancelled.

Kote also mentioned that developer Phoenix Labs was working on a new IP codenamed Project Dragon for the last 3 years, but that too has now officially been cancelled. He added that internal attempts to save the project went in vain. According to him, the embargo on the whole body of portfolio work has been lifted, implying that developers are free to share the work that they did on the game. While the name “Project Dragon” does suggest that it may have had something to do with the Spyro the Dragon IP, Kote clarified that this was not the case. Fans will undoubtedly be disappointed to hear about the cancellation of Crash Bandicoot 5. For now, they can continue to support Crash Team Rumble in hope that a sequel to Crash Bandicoot 4 would be green lit by Microsoft some day. The online multiplayer game was developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision. It is a party game featuring various characters from the series in playable form, including Crash, Coco, Tawna, Cortex, Dingodile, female N. Tropy, N. Brio. Gameplay involves two teams competing to collect Wumpa Fruit while blocking each other’s efforts.

Crash Team Racing was released on June 20, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It was the last game developed by Toys for Bob as an Activision studio before it became independent in February, 2024. The game received its final content update on March 4, 2024.
