The development of Pearl Abyss’ upcoming action role-playing game, Crimson Desert, is nearly complete, based on the latest information.
Publisher and developer Pearl Abyss announced in its 4th Quarter, 2022 Earnings Conference Call that Crimson Desert is nearing the end of its development cycle, and that marketing, including gameplay demos and new trailers, will begin sometime this year.
Based on the information shared in the public conference, the studio had trouble updating the game engine for Crimson Desert. In addition, the pandemic also posed several hurdles in the game’s development. Pearl Abyss’ goal was to create a graphical showcase, but the game wasn’t recieving the feedback the development team had expected back in 2020. Therefore, the studio focused on updating the game engine, taking care of bugs and errors, and creating a dynamic weather system with seasons.
The studio mentioned in the conference that it is already in talks with partners in order to begin the marketing campaign, including gameplay demos and trailers for Crimson Desert. No concrete launch window was provided, though it appears that the game may arrive sometime during the 1st Quarter of 2024.
For the uninitiated, Crimson Desert is an upcoming action role-playing game developed and published by Pearl Abyss. It is set in a medieval fantasy world on a continent called Pywel. The main character, Macduff, is a mercenary who is burdened by the responsibilities of leadership and painful memories from his past.
The game was initially intended to be a prequel to Black Desert Online, but as it was being developed, it eventually changed into a single-player game set in the same universe. Pearl Abyss released commentary videos in December, 2020 to offer insight into the game’s development and the development team’s goals. Crimson Desert’s proprietary BlackSpace Engine is an updated version of the engine used for Black Desert Online.
