Crimson Desert Early Impressions Praise World Design and Performance

by Ali Haider

Early impressions of Crimson Desert have begun to surface ahead of its global launch, with a Korean streamer sharing detailed feedback after completing the game prior to release.

One of the more notable elements highlighted is the character switching system, which is said to function similarly to Grand Theft Auto V. The transition reportedly includes cinematic zoom out and zoom in effects, with characters continuing their activities in the world before control shifts. In one instance, the player described switching into a character named Oongka in the middle of a large-scale battle, requiring an immediate fight for survival.

The streamer reported completing the game without the Day 1 patch, encountering only minor bugs along the way. According to the impressions, several issues observed in earlier gameplay demonstrations appear to have been addressed, including footstep audio, running animations, and character reactions when taking damage.

In terms of pacing, the experience was compared to Red Dead Redemption 2, with the streamer noting they had spent around 600 hours in Rockstar’s title. The world design was also praised, with each activity described as having a clear sense of purpose rather than following a checklist driven structure.

The main story was said to present a steep challenge for players who progress without upgrading the protagonist, Kliff. Difficulty reportedly varies by region, increasing significantly toward the eastern and northern areas of the map.

From a technical standpoint, the game was played on an RTX 5080 at 1440p using cinematic settings, with no reported frame drops or stuttering. The soundtrack was described as a standout element, while the overall gameplay systems were not considered overwhelming despite their scope.

Some minor progression constraints were noted early on, particularly with inventory space, though this was said to improve later through side quest rewards. Even after completing the main story, the streamer indicated that a large portion of the game’s bosses remained undiscovered.

The player ultimately described Crimson Desert as the “game of his life,” noting that they spent around 10 hours per day playing through the review period, while avoiding deeper discussion of certain elements due to embargo restrictions.

Crimson Desert is set to launch globally on March 19, 2026. Developed by Pearl Abyss, the open-world action-adventure follows mercenary Kliff across the war-torn continent of Pywel. The title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and macOS, with support for modern NVIDIA and AMD hardware.
