Crusader Kings 3 Update 1.17.1 Fixes Coronation Issues and Improves Oaths

Crusader Kings 3 has released Update 1.17.1, a patch designed to resolve lingering issues with coronations and the recent Ascendant update. The update focuses heavily on bug fixes, particularly concerning oaths, coronation events, and player notifications. It also improves character memories, corrects event text, and addresses several AI-related problems.

In addition to fixes, the update introduces a new coronation event for hosts, adjustments to oath requirements, and changes to the Divine Marriage tenet and witchcraft mechanics. Together, these refinements aim to provide a smoother, more balanced gameplay experience while ensuring greater consistency in role-playing elements.

  • Fixed Activity Pulse Action “stopped to admire the venue” showing errors during coronations from a guest perspective.
  • Fixed coronation hosts incorrectly mentioning a guest’s realm while swearing an oath.
  • “Champion of the X Culture” decision now properly displays duchy existence check.
  • “Consolidate the empire/kingdom” oath now checks for the correct coronation title.
  • “Purge Pretenders” oath fixed to correctly check children with claims and display laws.
  • “Repent” oath no longer counts one pilgrimage multiple times.

Content:

  • Added a powerful coronation event allowing hosts to use their chancellor to break up a neighboring confederation or gain a new vassal/tributary.
  • Added relation reasons for lovers in coronation events.

Balance:

  • The “Divine Marriage” tenet now treats the incestuous trait as a virtue.
  • Zealous characters are easier to convert to witchcraft if faith permits it and the witch trait is a virtue.
  • Increased cost of Level 6 “Millet Storage” yurt building to intended level.

Crusader Kings III is a grand strategy role-playing video game set in the Middle Ages, developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive as a sequel to Crusader Kings (2004) and Crusader Kings II (2012). The game was released on PC on 1 September 2020 and on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on 29 March 2022 in most regions. The game received generally positive reviews on release and has sold over 3 million copies as of September 2023.
