Crystal Dynamics has confirmed another round of layoffs, with the Tomb Raider developer reducing its workforce by 20 employees. The announcement was shared publicly by the studio in a statement posted on LinkedIn.

In the statement, the company said, “Today, Crystal Dynamics is reducing its workforce by 20 talented team members, split between some development personnel and some central operations roles. This is a difficult day for our studio, and we never make these decisions lightly, particularly after the restructuring we underwent last year.” The studio indicated that the decision follows an internal review of team structures as projects move into new stages of development.

Crystal Dynamics added, “As our current projects move into new phases of development, we continuously take a hard look at our team structures to ensure they align with our long-term studio goals. While we always strive to transition our people into new roles whenever possible, we have unfortunately reached a point where these departures are necessary.” The company also confirmed that affected employees will receive severance and job placement support.

Addressing concerns about ongoing work, the studio stated, “We know that news like this can cause concern amongst our community. Crystal Dynamics remains fully committed to the future development of our already announced Tomb Raider titles. Today, however, our priority is supporting our colleagues who are moving on.”

The layoffs come as Crystal Dynamics continues development on multiple Tomb Raider projects. These include Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the original 1996 game built using Unreal Engine 5, and Tomb Raider Catalyst, a new entry planned for release in 2027. Both projects are part of a broader effort to expand the franchise under Amazon Games.
