Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Ray Tracing Impresses, but PC Still Holds Visual Edge

by Salal Awan

Cyberpunk 2077 has received a visual boost on PS5 Pro through its new Ray Tracing Pro mode, but comparisons with the PC version highlight several key differences in graphical fidelity. The updated console mode enhances lighting through ray-traced shadows, global illumination, and select reflections.

In direct comparisons, ray-traced shadows and reflections on PS5 Pro appear close to the highest settings available on PC. However, global illumination continues to favor PC hardware, particularly when path tracing is enabled, where the gap becomes more apparent.

Performance testing using an RTX 5060 Ti with settings aligned to the PS5 Pro configuration shows that the console can slightly outperform the GPU without relying on frame generation. On the other hand, the PC setup benefits from more advanced features, including path tracing and broader application of ray-traced reflections across all surfaces, options that are not currently available on the console version.

Image reconstruction techniques show less separation between platforms. At 1440p, PSSR on PS5 Pro and DLSS on PC deliver largely comparable image quality, suggesting parity in upscaling performance despite the underlying hardware differences.

Cyberpunk 2077, developed by CD Projekt Red, first launched in December 2020 and has since been expanded across multiple platforms. The game is set in Night City, where players take on the role of V, a mercenary navigating a complex story centered around a stolen biochip containing the consciousness of a legendary figure.
