Spike Chunsoft has announced Danganronpa 2×2, a new entry in the long-running visual novel series, scheduled for release in 2026 across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The game was unveiled on September 12 during the company’s 15th anniversary celebrations for the franchise.
The title will include both a brand-new storyline and a revamped version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The new scenario will use the same setting and cast of characters as the original but will branch into a different sequence of events, featuring new victims, culprits, and mysteries. Spike Chunsoft indicated that this additional storyline will offer a comparable amount of content to the original game.
In addition, the original Goodbye Despair scenario has been updated with modern production values, including improved visuals and presentation, to suit contemporary platforms. Both Japanese and English voice options will be available, alongside text support in multiple languages.
Danganronpa 2×2 continues the series’ established format of investigation and courtroom-style debates known as Class Trials. Players must uncover evidence, challenge conflicting testimonies, and determine the identity of murderers in high-stakes scenarios orchestrated by Monokuma, the recurring antagonist.
The announcement also highlighted an upcoming fan event marking the series’ 15th anniversary. Scheduled for November 29, 2025, at Belle Salle Tokyo Nihonbashi, the event will allow attendees to try the game for the first time.
The Danganronpa franchise began in 2010 with Trigger Happy Havoc for the PlayStation Portable and has since expanded across multiple platforms with three mainline entries and two spin-offs. According to Spike Chunsoft, the series has sold more than 8.5 million copies worldwide.
Danganronpa 2×2 is currently in development by Gemdrops, Inc., under the supervision of series creator Kazutaka Kodaka and other original staff members. Pricing and an exact release date have not yet been announced.
