Capcom’s updated Platinum Titles list has revealed that Dead Rising 3 has officially sold over 5 million copies, cementing its position as the best-selling game in the franchise. The milestone is especially notable considering the title was only released on Xbox One and PC, without a later upgrade for Xbox Series consoles.
Breaking down the numbers, Dead Rising 3 sold approximately 4 million units on Xbox One alone. Its PC release, the Apocalypse Edition, added another 1.5 million units, bringing the total to 5.5 million copies sold. This performance has propelled the game past other entries in the series, including Dead Rising (2006), which sits at around 3.4 million cumulative sales when accounting for its remaster.
Other notable performers in the franchise include Dead Rising 2, which sold 3.2 million units on its original PS3 and Xbox 360 release, followed by Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. The latter sold over 1.5 million units on PS3 and Xbox 360, with an additional 1.3 million on its PS4, Xbox One, and PC ports, for a combined total of 2.8 million. By contrast, Dead Rising 4 remains the lowest-selling entry in the series, with just 1.7 million copies sold across Xbox One and PC, reflecting its poor critical reception.
The recent Dead Rising remake, released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, has yet to reach one million sales and does not appear on Capcom’s Platinum Titles list. Despite this, the series remains a significant property for Capcom, with total lifetime sales exceeding 18 million copies worldwide as of December 31, 2024.
Created by Keiji Inafune, Dead Rising debuted in 2006 as an Xbox 360 exclusive before later expanding to other platforms. The franchise, known for its open-world zombie combat and creative weapon crafting, was originally developed by Capcom before production shifted to Capcom Vancouver under Microsoft’s publishing support.
