Death Stranding 2 File Size Revealed Ahead of Launch, and It Is Substantial

An early leak has revealed Death Stranding 2: On the Beach‘s file size, and players should brace for a hefty storage commitment. According to someone claiming to have an early review copy, the game will require 92.80 GB on PlayStation 5—placing it among the platform’s largest titles and signaling that Hideo Kojima’s latest project is as technically demanding as it is narratively ambitious.

For comparison, the original Death Stranding launched at 44.75 GB, while the Director’s Cut expanded to 63.91 GB. Even with post-launch updates, both versions started significantly smaller than the sequel’s near-93 GB footprint. With the standard PS5 offering roughly 667 GB of usable space, fans may need to free up a substantial chunk before embarking on Sam Porter Bridges’ next journey.

This leak follows reports about the game’s review embargo and pre-load schedule. According to sources like Genki_JPN, the press received review codes over three weeks ahead of the launch. The embargo lifts on June 23, 2025, at 7:00 AM PDT—three days before release—while digital pre-orders can be pre-loaded starting June 24. A day-one patch will likely arrive just before the full launch on June 26.

Set across Mexico and Australia’s unforgiving landscapes, Death Stranding 2 continues Sam’s story in a world still reeling from Death Stranding’s supernatural aftermath. Director Hideo Kojima initially envisioned it as smaller DLC or a spin-off (as mentioned on Koji Pro Radio), but it grew into a full sequel with deeper systems and grander scope.

Kojima Productions has already shown strong faith in the game, offering journalists up to 30 hours of hands-on gameplay earlier this year. Early feedback was overwhelmingly positive, heightening expectations for one of 2025’s most awaited releases.

With the launch approaching, players now know the storage sacrifice required, so it might be time to start clearing space.
