Death Stranding 2 Update Fails to Fix PS5 Map Overheat Bug, Players Express Frustration

by Ali Haider

Despite the recent release of patch 1.07 for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, players are still facing a serious issue that has yet to be resolved, an overheating bug triggered by the game’s map interface on PlayStation 5 consoles. The issue has been widely reported across forums and social media, with affected users warning others that accessing the route planner can cause consoles to ramp up fan speeds aggressively, display overheating warnings, and, in some cases, shut down entirely.

Sony XDEV confirmed the deployment of the new update via their official X account, noting that it includes “more stability improvements and minor bug fixes.” However, no mention was made of the overheat problem, which has left many players disappointed and increasingly concerned about the potential risks to their hardware.

One of the more detailed reports came from Reddit user FVLLEN, who posted a video documenting the issue on a base PS5 disc model. According to the post, the bug only manifests when using the map or route planner, not during regular gameplay. FVLLEN stated, “The bug occurs only when accessing the route planner / map, with the fans quickly speeding up until the console gets an overheat warning.” They added that the same hardware had no prior issues even during demanding titles known for heavy system loads.

Another player, posting under the handle Any_Bluebird2262, shared a more alarming experience: “Today I did not get any overheating warning. It just f**** shut down immediately, displaying some colorful artifacts for a sec before.” The user later received a corrupted data warning on reboot, raising questions about long-term console safety if the issue is not addressed.

While some users report that the problem does not occur in all scenarios, such as opening the map while on the DHV Magellan, consistency in the reproduction of the bug is enough to validate it as more than an isolated glitch. Many have ruled out improper ventilation or dust build-up as potential causes, noting the issue occurs even on clean, properly placed units.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, launched on June 26, 2025, for PlayStation 5. Written, produced, and directed by Hideo Kojima, the game was met with critical acclaim upon release, but this technical problem has cast a shadow over its post-launch experience for some users.

Given the nature of the reports, it seems increasingly important that Kojima Productions and Sony prioritize a targeted fix. Left unaddressed, the issue may not only erode player trust but could also result in damage to hardware, a risk no player wants to take lightly.
