Death Stranding Director’s Cut Is Now PS5 Pro Enhanced

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Kojima Productions’ action-adventure game, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, is now PS5 Pro enhanced.

The PlayStation Store page for Death Stranding Director’s Cut has been updated with the ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ label, indicating that the game now takes advantage of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s mid-gen console.

The ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ label was likely added following the release of update 1.005, which also introduced a new power saver mode in Death Stranding Director’s Cut. It’s unclear what specific improvements this enhancement brings, as both the Quality and Performance modes already run at a stable 60 frames per second at high resolutions via the mid-gen console’s Game Boost functionality, which takes advantage of the additional processing horsepower.

One possibility is that Kojima Productions updated the game to a newer version of the PS5 development kit in order to support the console’s new power-saving feature and, in the process, enabled official support for the PlayStation 5 Pro, even if it doesn’t result in noticeable visual or performance changes. It’s also possible that the update modifies the game’s image reconstruction technique. The base PS5 version of Death Stranding Director’s Cut used checkerboard rendering at 4K for upscaling, and the new update may have incorporated the more advanced image reconstruction technology used in its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Sony Interactive Entertainment added the Power Saving mode to the PS5 via a system software update (version 25.06-12.00.00) on September 17, 2025. The option can be enabled or disabled on a per-game basis. Users can toggle the feature under Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver. When activated, an icon will appear next to the game in the Switcher menu within the control center, making it easy to track which titles are currently running in power saver mode. The new mode is rumored to facilitate the console maker’s unannounced PlayStation handheld. According to documents and claims shared by hardware insider Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID), the alleged handheld could arrive in Fall 2027 alongside the mainline PS6 console.
