Toby Fox has shared a new status update on Deltarune Chapter 5, confirming that progress is moving forward smoothly and that the project has entered a critical new phase. According to the latest update, work on Chapter 5 is advancing well, with localization now officially underway and broader testing planned for later stages of development.
Toby Fox confirmed that all game text has already been extracted and annotated with detailed notes for translators, marking the beginning of the localization process. Once localization reaches its final stages, Chapter 5 will move into testing with a professional quality assurance team. In parallel, the developers will begin evaluating how the chapter performs on consoles, a process scheduled to start in January.
While no firm release date has been announced, Toby Fox provided a realistic outlook on timing. From the current stage of development, they estimate that Chapter 5 is still several months away from release. Even so, internal progress appears to be far along, to the point where the team expects that much of its attention will soon shift toward Chapter 6, despite the relatively recent expansion of the game.
Additional details offered in the update paint a clearer picture of Chapter 5’s overall state. Nearly all rooms in the chapter are complete, with only background polish remaining. Most story scenes are finished as well, with only a small number requiring visual refinement. Combat content is similarly advanced, with nearly all battles implemented. A handful of encounters still need pacing adjustments and refinements to bullet patterns, but these battles already function from start to finish.
Toby Fox also emphasized that Chapter 5 contains hours of gameplay, suggesting a substantial addition rather than a short transitional chapter. Taken together, the update suggests that the remaining work is focused largely on refinement, optimization, and platform readiness rather than foundational development.
Deltarune itself is the narrative successor to Undertale and follows Kris, Susie, and Ralsei as they attempt to seal Dark Fountains and prevent a collapse between the Light and Dark worlds. After years of episodic releases, the game transitioned into a paid product on June 5, 2025, with the simultaneous launch of Chapters 3 and 4. That release expanded the game’s scope significantly and set the stage for Chapter 5 as the next major milestone.
Based on the current development status, Chapter 5 appears firmly on track, even if patience is still required. With localization active, testing on the horizon, and most content already complete, the chapter is clearly deep into its final stretch. For fans, the wait continues, but this update suggests it is at least a focused and productive one.
