Comparison videos of the Demon’s Souls remake and Black Myth: Wukong running on both PS5 and PS5 Pro showcase an impressive upgrade on the mid-gen console.
One major difference between the Demon’s Souls remake and Black Myth: Wukong PS5 and PS5 Pro comparisons is that Game Science’s title has not received a patch to take full advantage of the mid-gen console’s capabilities. Bluepoint Games’ remake, on the other hand, has received a dedicated update to support the PS5 Pro.
The Demon’s Souls remake on the PS5 Pro introduces a new PS5 Pro mode, which has PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) in effect along with a dynamic 4K resolution at 60fps. In this mode, the game’s resolution ranges from approximately 2160p to 1584p. Additionally, the Quality (2160p/30fps) and Performance (1440p/60fps) modes offered on the base PS5 are also still available on the PS5 Pro.
As mentioned earlier, Black Myth: Wukong does has not received a PS5 Pro patch as of writing, so its graphical settings and resolution targets remain the same as those in the base PS5 version. That said, there is a noticeable improvement in frame rate, particularly in performance mode, with an increase of 10 to 20fps in certain areas. Additionally, loading times are slightly faster on the PS5 Pro.
Besides the above two titles, another game that has received an impressive PS5 Pro upgrade is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Its dedicated PS5 Pro patch brings a new Versatility option to its Graphics optimization setting. The new option takes advantage of the mid-gen console’s AI upscaling feature, PSSR, to deliver much crisper and cleaner image quality.
The PS5 Pro is shaping up to be a pretty feature-rich console. The mid-gen console features a new setting to improve image quality for PS4 titles. The new toggle, called “Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games,” is said to improve the visual quality of some PS4 titles, but may cause issues in certain games and can be disabled if required.
