Devil May Cry voice actor Daniel Southworth has dropped some hints on the possibility of a new game being in development.
During the Devil May Cry 25h anniversary panel at Power Morphicon 2024, a fan asked Vergil voice actor Daniel Southworth to share his experience upon returning to perform as a character after a long period. In his response, he mentioned that he returned to Vergil in Devil May Cry 5 around 15 years after Devil May Cry 3. He said that he had changed over time, and that Capcom had also made the characters older. As such, he was naturally able to fit into any changes that would have happened to Vergil’s voice.
Southworth also talked about recently finishing work on an unannounced Capcom title, for which he was hired to play a younger version of Vergil. He refrained from mentioning the game’s title, as he didn’t wish to spill the beans. Though, he did reveal that he was specifically asked to voice the character the way it was back in 2004.
The Virgil voice actor said the role was quite challenging for him, since he had to find his younger voice and keep playing it until he reached a place where his voice had a “boyish” tone to it. He said that it was really tough because it wouldn’t always turn out right.
Southworth voicing a version of Virgil from 2004 suggests that the game may be a remake of Devil May Cry 3 or a new title set soon after its events. On the other hand, it may even be a new Marvel vs Capcom title that features a younger version of the Devil May Cry character. It’s tough to say without any further details.
In related news, it was recently revealed via Capcom’s updated list of Platinum Titles that Devil May Cry 5 (including the Special Edition) has sold nearly 9 million copies.
