Digimon Story: Time Stranger Demo – What’s Included and How to Download

by Greg Martin

The long-awaited Digimon Story: Time Stranger is finally giving players a chance to preview its world through a free demo. This early look introduces the game’s story, battle system, and exploration while also allowing progress to carry over into the full release—at least in part. Whether you are a veteran of the Digimon Story series or entirely new to it, the demo offers a meaningful taste of what awaits when the full game arrives in October 2025.

What the Demo Includes

The demo of Digimon Story: Time Stranger contains two major sections:

  1. Opening Chapter
    • Experience the beginning of the main story, where players encounter an unknown Digimon before a city-leveling disaster.
    • Progress from this section can be transferred to the full version of the game, provided you continue on the same platform.
  2. Central Town – Adventure Trial Mode
    • After finishing the story portion, you gain access to a trial mode.
    • This includes limited exploration of the Digital World: Iliad, with select areas and dungeons available.
    • Important: Data from the Adventure Trial cannot be carried over into the full game.

The demo weighs in at roughly 6.8 GB on Xbox Series X/S, with similar file sizes expected on PlayStation 5, Steam, and other platforms.

How to Download the Demo

The demo is available across all announced platforms. You can download it directly using the official links below:

Save Data Transfer Details

Bandai Namco has confirmed that demo progress can carry over, but there are restrictions:

  • Story Save Transfer: Data from the opening chapter can be imported into the full game on the same platform only.
  • Trial Mode Data: Progress in Central Town’s Adventure Trial cannot be transferred.
  • Updates Required: If you start the full version without updating, the demo save can still be transferred later. However, be careful—if you already have full version save data, it will be overwritten by the demo save.
  • Transfer Prompt: Upon first launching the updated full version, the game will ask if you wish to transfer demo data. If you select “No,” this prompt will not appear again unless you delete the full save file.

What to Expect from the Full Game

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is the first entry in the series in eight years, developed by Media.Vision and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The full release will feature:

  • A story spanning both the human world and the Digital World: Iliad.
  • Over 450 Digimon to collect, raise, and battle with.
  • Strategic turn-based combat with new customization options.
  • The series’ first-ever official English dub.
  • Release on October 3, 2025, worldwide.

The demo for Digimon Story: Time Stranger allows players more than just a brief look at the game. It lets them start their adventure early while experiencing the redesigned battle system and new exploration features. Since saved data from the demo can be transferred to the full game, there is no downside to playing it before the official launch on October 3.
