Divinity Original Sin 2 is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, expanding its reach to the latest generation of consoles. Developed by the same team behind Baldur’s Gate 3, the critically acclaimed role-playing game invites players back into the world of Rivellon, where the struggle for Divinity once again takes center stage. The release allows both new and returning players to experience the game on modern hardware, either alone or in cooperative play.
Set in a world where the Divine is dead and the Void is closing in, Divinity Original Sin 2 places players in the role of a wielder of forbidden magic. Characters begin their journey imprisoned in the colony of Fort Joy, quarantined by the Magisters of the Divine Order, who claim to seek a cure for these dangerous powers. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the Order harbors secrets that threaten the entire world, and if Rivellon remains without gods, chaos is inevitable.
The game is designed as a standalone experience, meaning prior knowledge of earlier Divinity titles is not required. However, players who have experienced previous entries may recognize returning characters or continuity elements that add extra context. Multiplayer is a core feature, with options to play solo, online with others, or through local couch co-op, offering flexibility in how the adventure is approached.
Players can choose from five playable races: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Lizard, and Undead. Each race comes with unique abilities and narrative tags that influence interactions and gameplay. Divinity Original Sin 2 also features a classless character creation system, distinct from Baldur’s Gate 3. This approach allows players to fully customize their character’s stats, abilities, talents, and skills, while preset classes are available for those who prefer a more guided start.
For existing owners on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One, upgrade options are available. Players can download a free Divinity Original Sin 2 Upgrade Pack through their platform’s storefront. However, users in Japan upgrading from Switch to Switch 2 or from PS4 to PS5 will need to pay a fee of ¥100. The release is not positioned as a remake or remaster, but rather as a way to experience the original game on current generation consoles.
