Dog Witch, a Dice-and-Card Roguelike from Heckmouse and Rami Ismail, Launches on Steam

by Greg Martin

Mystic Forge and solo developer Heckmouse, in collaboration with producer Rami Ismail, have officially released Dog Witch on Steam. The turn-based roguelike, priced at $9.99, combines dice-based combat and deckbuilding strategy, drawing inspiration from titles such as Slay the Spire and Dicey Dungeons.

Developed over five years as a personal project, Dog Witch places players in the role of a canine spellcaster determined to defeat a former master known as the Mad Master Wizard. The game emphasizes replayability, offering short, self-contained runs that mix strategic planning with the unpredictability of dice rolls. Players can collect over 150 magical artifacts, including risk-enhancing “corrupted” variants that alter abilities and introduce new combinations.

According to the developer, each playthrough features randomized encounters and item drops, ensuring no two runs play alike. The title’s design aims to balance accessibility with tactical depth, giving players the opportunity to experiment with multiple builds and playstyles. In addition to traditional roguelike progression, players can customize their character’s appearance — from fur type and hat choice to “chonk level” — adding a lighthearted element to the game’s otherwise challenging loop.

Dog Witch also features an assortment of whimsical enemies, such as armed Russian dolls, cat-themed adversaries, and sentient vending machines. Combat revolves around dice rolls that power spells, activate relics, and summon allies like skeletons, laser ponies, and rats with improvised weapons. Each encounter requires improvisation, encouraging players to adapt to the randomness of dice outcomes and the strengths of their equipped items.

Dog Witch is available now on Steam and can be purchased for $9.99.
