Donkey Kong Bananza is an upcoming 3D platformer developed by Nintendo EPD for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is scheduled for release on July 17, 2025, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. It is the first all-new Donkey Kong title since Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2014) and the first 3D entry in the series since Donkey Kong 64 (1999).

Players take on the role of Donkey Kong as he journeys underground with a young Pauline to retrieve golden, banana-shaped gems, known as Banandium Gems, that have been stolen by a group of villainous apes. The gameplay is reminiscent of Super Mario Odyssey (2017), featuring large, sandbox-style levels where players complete objectives, battle foes, and gather collectibles. A defining feature of Bananza is its destructible environments, with nearly all terrain being destructible, allowing players to pave new paths and hidden items.

The latest entry is the first internally developed Donkey Kong game by Nintendo since Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (2004), and it was created by the same EPD team behind Odyssey. Although development originally began on the Nintendo Switch, the project transitioned to the Switch 2 to take full advantage of its improved hardware. The developers expanded on the voxel-based terrain manipulation seen in Odyssey, crafting expansive, destructible environments that highlight Donkey Kong’s raw power. The soundtrack includes both new compositions and rearranged tracks from classic Donkey Kong games, originally composed by David Wise and Grant Kirkhope.
