Doom Creator Is Developing iD Tech 8 For Next Project

The creators of first-person shooter series Doom are currently working on a new version of its game engine, iD Tech 8, for its next project.

According to the Linkedin profile of, Philip Hammer, Principal Engine Programmer at iD Software, the studio behind he Doom series is busy working on a new version of its game engine, iD Tech 8, for its forthcoming title. The developer has now removed mention of the number “8” from his profile, though, as seen below, the number still appears next to iD Tech in the Google search description.

The most recent entry in the Doom series, Doom Eternal, is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It serves as the sequel to Doom (2016) and is the seventh installment in the Doom series. The game was initially released on March 20, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Stadia, Windows, and Xbox One. Subsequently, it became available for the Nintendo Switch on December 8, 2020, and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S on June 29, 2021.

The storyline in Doom Eternal takes place after the events of the 2016 game. It follows the Doom Slayer as he embarks on a mission to stop Hell from consuming Earth and thwart the alien Maykrs’ efforts to exterminate humanity. The game features a single-player campaign, and it introduced a multiplayer mode called Battlemode. In this mode, players can choose to play as either the Doom Slayer or a demon, engaging in battles until one side emerges victorious.
