DOOM: The Dark Ages Update 1.003 Released, But Key Issues Remain Unresolved

by Ali Haider

DOOM: The Dark Ages has received a minor new patch, version 1.003, which is now available to download on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. Weighing in at under 500 MB, this update appears to deliver backend adjustments and bug fixes, although Bethesda has not released any official patch notes. Despite its arrival, early player reports suggest that several notable issues persist, including the long-standing bug related to the Platinum trophy.

One of the primary complaints voiced by players revolves around the “Berserker” milestone, which is required to unlock the Platinum trophy. Even though the in-game tracker shows this milestone as completed, the trophy does not unlock for many users. Multiple posts on Reddit, including one by user Outrageous-Basis-182, confirm that update 1.003 for DOOM: The Dark Ages does not resolve this issue. According to their experience, even after playing and reloading the game post-update, the trophy still remains inaccessible.

In addition, players using Linux have raised concerns that the latest update has unintentionally affected compatibility. Reddit user d3vilguard reports that Denuvo now blocks the game from launching on Linux, despite previous versions running without issue. While DOOM has never been officially supported on Linux, the community has long embraced running the franchise on unconventional platforms, making this restriction particularly frustrating for some fans.

Alongside these complaints, Bethesda has acknowledged several known issues across PC and console platforms:

Known Issues on Console:

  • Switching profiles without pre-existing save data can transfer data incorrectly between profiles.
  • Loading cloud or Xbox saves via the Xbox PC app may result in incorrect resolution settings and inaccessible video options.

Known Issues on PC:

  • Enabling G-Sync or V-Sync with Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50-series GPUs can crash the game.
  • V-Sync appears enabled even when disabled alongside FrameGen on RTX 40/50 GPUs.
  • Changing resolutions in fullscreen and using Alt-Tab can cause the desktop resolution to match the new game resolution.
  • Alt-Tabbing during launch may cause the game to remain in the background and not open.
  • OBS users may experience screen freezes when Alt-Tabbing from fullscreen mode.
  • Manual window resizing with FSR FrameGen enabled can freeze the game.
  • Unplugging a second monitor during gameplay may result in game freezes.
  • MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner overlays can lead to game instability.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
