How To Install & Setup Lossless Scaling For Steam Deck
Follow the steps outlined below to get Lossless Scaling up and running in no time on your Steam Deck.
Step 1: Purchase and download Lossless Scaling
- Launch Steam in Gaming Mode.
- Purchase and download Lossless Scaling from the Steam Store.
- This is required because the plugin relies on files from the official program.
- After it’s downloaded, press the Steam button, go to:
- Settings > System > Check for updates.
- Ensure SteamOS is fully updated before proceeding.
Step 2: Switch to Desktop Mode
- Press the Steam button again.
- Navigate to:
- Power > Switch to Desktop Mode.
- Step 3: Download Decky Loader
- Open the web browser on the desktop.
- Go to: https://decky.xyz
- Click Download in the top-right corner.
- Save the installer to your Downloads folder.
Step 4: Set a System Password
- Open System Settings (bottom left of the desktop).
- Navigate to:
- Users > Click on your user > Change Password.
- Press X to bring up the Steam keyboard.
- Set the password
- When prompted to update keyring or login settings, click Leave Unchanged.
Step 5: Install Decky Loader
- Open Dolphin File Manager, go to Downloads.
- Double-click decky_installer.desktop.
- Click Continue when prompted.
- Enter the password you set and press Enter.
- On the next screen:
- Select Release (since Steam Deck is on stable SteamOS).
- Click OK.
- Wait for installation confirmation and click OK when finished.
Step 6: Download Decky Lossless Scaling VK Plugin
- In your web browser, go to the GitHub page for the plugin:
- (Use the link provided in the YouTube video description).
- Scroll down to the Releases section.
- Download the file: losslessscaling.zip.\
- Save it to either your Downloads or Desktop folder.
Step 7: Return to Gaming Mode
- Press the Return to Gaming Mode icon on the desktop (top left or system tray).
- Wait for Steam Deck to load back into Gaming Mode.
Step 8: Enable Developer Mode in Decky Loader
- Press the Quick Access Menu (the “…” button).
- Navigate to the new Decky Loader plug icon (looks like a plug).
- Press Right twice to access Settings.
- Scroll down and Enable Developer Mode under General.
Step 9: Install the Lossless Scaling Plugin
- Still in Decky, press Left, scroll down to Developer.
- Select Install Plugin from ZIP file.
- Browse to your Downloads folder.
- Select losslessscaling.zip.
- Press Install.
