Dragon Age: The Veilguard PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Graphics Comparison

EA and Bioware’s action role-playing game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and if you’re on the fence about which version to pick up, read ahead.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers 2 graphical modes on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S i.e. Quality and Performance. In terms of graphical settings, Quality mode features selective ray traced reflections and ray traced ambient occlusion while Performance mode completely disables ray tracing. Furthermore, SSAO, shadows, and Level of Detail settings are also slightly better in Quality mode. Meanwhile, Quality mode in the Xbox Series S version has ray tracing disabled completely. though it does retain the other benefits seen in the other two console versions. The console’s Performance mode is similar in settings to the other two consoles, but hair rendering does take a hit.

In terms of image quality, the PS5 and Xbox Series X run the game at a dynamic resolution that peaks at 1080p in Quality mode, which is then upscaled to 4K using a version of FSR2.  In Performance mode, the game runs at a dynamic resolution that peaks at 720p and can drop as low as504p, which is then upscaled to 1440p using FSR2. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S versions runs at a dynamic resolution that peaks at 648p in Quality mode and 432p in Performance mode.

With regards to performance, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions of the game target a frame rate of 30 fps in Quality mode and 60 fps in Performance mode. The frame rate on the PS5 and Xbox Series X is largely stable, though there are more prominent drops on Xbox Series S in Performance mode.

All in all, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard offer the best possible experience on consoles, and it mainly comes down to your choice of controller.
