Dying Light Retouched Update vs Enhanced Edition Comparison Shows Notable Improvement In Textures & Lighting

by Muhammad Ali Bari

Techland has released the Retouched update for its survival horror game, Dying Light, with improved graphical features, and if you’re wondering how it compares with the existing Enhanced Edition, read ahead.

The Retouched update for Dying Light adds higher resolution textures, upscaled skyboxes and clouds, ‘Ultra’ level quality shadows, and lighting improvements over the Enhanced Edition. As seen in the video below, the higher resolution textures as well as the altered lighting are noticeable across the game’s environments.

The improved skyboxes and clouds have improved the overall atmospheric rendering of Dying Light, and adjustments have also been made to the scene lighting. It results in a warmer looking game with more rich lighting. The difference is subtle in places while more prominent in other areas.

The higher resolution textures add more detail to environmental surfaces, such as the floor and building walls. Higher quality shadows further enhance the scene quality over the Enhanced Edition.

Other than the changes mentioned above, there isn’t much else to distinguish the Dying Light Retouched update from the Enhanced Edition, which already improved upon the vanilla version of the game. The differences are subtle in some cases, while more pronounced in others. It’s ultimately a testament to Techland’s commitment to support the game with improvements even a decade after its original release back in 2015.

For the uninitiated, Dying Light’s story focuses on Kyle Crane, an undercover operative sent into a quarantined zone within the fictional Middle Eastern city of Harran. Set in an open-world environment teeming with the infected, the game features a dynamic day-night cycle, with zombies being sluggish and less threatening during the day and far more aggressive and dangerous after sunset. Gameplay involves a mix of melee combat and parkour, giving players the option to either confront threats head-on or escape using agile movement. It also includes a four-player co-op mode and an asymmetrical multiplayer component.
