Electronic Arts is set to release EA Sports FC 26 later this month, and early comparisons reveal the most striking improvement yet on Nintendo’s hardware. The Switch 2 version of the game not only surpasses the original Switch by a wide margin but also marks one of the most substantial generational upgrades seen in recent sports titles.
The differences are dramatic. On Switch 2, nearly every graphical setting has been overhauled. Improvements can be seen in player modeling, physics, lighting, animation quality, textures, and visual effects. The game’s presentation now sits much closer to what PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series players experience, creating a far more immersive simulation. By contrast, the original Switch edition appears outdated, with simplified detail and reduced physics interactions.
Despite the leap in quality, performance remains an area of compromise for Nintendo’s console. The Switch 2 edition is capped at 30 frames per second, mirroring the frame rate of the original Switch release. For a series as reliant on quick reactions and fluid pacing as EA Sports FC, this limitation could be seen as a notable drawback, particularly since PS5 and Xbox Series versions run at 60fps across both Graphics and Resolution modes.
Compared with other platforms, Switch 2 sits in an interesting middle ground. It clearly outperforms the PlayStation 4 version with its use of updated lighting and support for EA’s Hypermotion technology, yet it still lags behind PS5 in areas such as hair rendering, texture fidelity, and some physics calculations. Resolution parity is largely maintained across consoles, but the frame rate disparity places Nintendo’s version at a disadvantage for competitive players.
EA Sports FC 26 is developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania, with a global release scheduled for September 26, 2025. The title will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Amazon Luna.
