EA Sports FC 26 Switch 2 Version Struggles at 30FPS Compared to PS5 and PS4

Electronic Arts is preparing to launch EA Sports FC 26 later this month, but early comparisons between platforms have raised questions about performance on Nintendo Switch 2. While the console benefits from stronger visuals than the PlayStation 4 version, it falls behind when measured against the PlayStation 5, particularly in terms of frame rate.

On PS5, EA Sports FC 26 offers two display modes: a Graphics or Quality mode prioritizing visual enhancements, and a Resolution mode for sharper image quality. Much like last year’s installment, the improvements mainly stem from adjustments in ambient occlusion and lighting. Both options target a stable 60 frames per second, which is generally considered essential for a fast-paced sports title.

The Switch 2 release presents a mixed case. It retains several technical advancements from the PS5 edition, including updated lighting and support for EA’s Hypermotion technology. However, compromises have been made in hair rendering, textures, and certain physics calculations. While the visual leap from the PS4 is noticeable, the Switch 2 runs the game at 30fps rather than 60fps, despite matching the resolution of Sony’s consoles.

This decision may prove divisive. Sports games often rely on smooth animation and quick player response, areas where a reduced frame rate can be felt immediately. For casual audiences, the improved graphics may outweigh the drawbacks, but for competitive players, the halved frame rate could make the Switch 2 version feel sluggish and less enjoyable.

Developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania, EA Sports FC 26 is set to release worldwide on September 26, 2025. The game will be available across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Amazon Luna.
