In its review of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Edge argues that while Metroid has tested player patience before, this entry stretches goodwill too far through relentless backtracking and excessive padding, particularly in its finale. Edge singles out the endgame as a low point, describing a succession of contrived plot hurdles that eclipse even The Wind Waker’s notorious Triforce hunt in sheer inconvenience. Lacking the sense of core brilliance that once justified such demands, the game is portrayed as sliding from merely underwhelming into outright embarrassment.

Edge’s take on Kirby Air Riders is similarly deflated, framing the game as an overstuffed but ultimately insubstantial experience. The review likens it to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Abundant modes and ideas are on offer, yet none feel nourishing enough to leave a lasting impression. According to the review, the problem lies at the foundation, where shallow mechanics undermine the variety built on top of them. Despite the long wait and the pedigree behind it, the game is characterized as lightweight and fleeting.

As for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Edge portrays the game as emblematic of a series stuck looking backward for renewal. The review notes that features positioned as fresh, such as familiar Zombies formats, are in fact revivals of ideas first introduced over a decade ago. Rather than inspiring nostalgia, this recycling is framed as evidence of creative fatigue. Edge suggests that leaning so heavily on old concepts exposes a franchise in need of a pause or reset.

Last month’s issue # 418 featured reviews for ARC Raiders (8), The Outer Worlds 2 (8), Where Winds Meet (6), Lumines Arise (9), Wreckreation (5), Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (5), Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment (7), Dead Static Drive (3), Possessor(s) (5), Forestrike (6), and Once Upon A Katamari (5).
