Epic Games Store has officially revealed its December 27 mystery giveaway title, confirming that Mystery Game number 11 of 17 is Cassette Beasts. The game will be available to claim for free beginning at 9 AM PST on December 27 and will remain free for a 24 hour period as part of Epic’s Holiday Sale 2025 promotion.
Cassette Beasts is an open-world role-playing game centered on monster collection and turn-based combat, with a distinctive fusion focused progression system. According to details shared on the Epic Games Store, players explore the remote island of New Wirral, a setting inhabited by strange and dangerous creatures, alongside a cast of human companions who use cassette tapes to transform into monsters during battle. The objective is to explore the island in full, record monsters onto cassette tapes, and use their abilities to progress and ultimately find a way home.
A core mechanic of Cassette Beasts is its transformation system, which allows players to record monsters and then play those recordings back to assume their forms in combat. Beyond basic transformation, the game introduces a Fusion System that allows any two monster forms to be combined, producing unique and fully animated fusion creatures. These fusions are influenced by the bond between player characters and their companions, making relationship building an integral part of both exploration and combat effectiveness.
Exploration plays a significant role in the experience. Certain monster abilities can be used while in human form, enabling traversal options such as gliding, flying, swimming, climbing, dashing, and manipulating magnetism. These abilities are required to solve environmental puzzles, access dungeons, and uncover hidden areas across the island. The game also features the Gauntlet, a repeatable battle mode designed to test player builds against increasingly dangerous enemies in exchange for materials and rewards.
Cassette Beasts follows We Were Here Together, which was revealed as the December 26 mystery game. With this latest reveal, more than half of Epic Games Store’s holiday giveaway lineup has now been unveiled, with six mystery titles still remaining after December 27.
