Epic Games Store has revealed that its December 29 mystery game will be Viewfinder, continuing the platform’s Holiday Sale 2025 promotion. The game will be available to claim for free starting December 29 at 9 AM PST and will remain available for a 24 hour period.
Viewfinder is described on the Epic Games Store as a single-player experience built around perception and reality manipulation. The game centers on the use of an instant camera, allowing players to reshape the world by placing images directly into the environment. According to the store description, the title is designed to offer hours of engaging gameplay while gradually revealing the mysteries left behind within its world.
The core concept of Viewfinder revolves around bringing images to life. Players are able to use photographs as well as paintings, sketches, screenshots, and postcards to alter their surroundings. Exploration plays a central role, with the game encouraging players to learn the secrets of the world and understand why it exists. The experience is spread across multiple hub areas that are described as cohesive, yet complex in their differences. The narrative is player-driven, offering a more straightforward puzzle-focused experience for some, while providing deeper world-building for those who wish to explore further. It is positioned as a flexible experience, which is not always the case with first-person puzzle games.
The inclusion of Viewfinder comes as part of the Epic Games Store Holiday Sale 2025, which began on December 11. The sale launched with Hogwarts Legacy offered as a free game for a full week, before transitioning into the daily mystery game format on December 18. Since then, Epic has rotated a wide range of titles through the promotion, with a new free game becoming available every 24 hours.
The daily lineup has included a mix of genres and styles, starting with Jotunnslayer Hordes of Hel on December 18, followed by Eternights on December 19 and Blood West on December 20. The promotion continued with Sorry We’re Closed on December 21, Paradise Killer on December 22, and Bloodstained Ritual of the Night on December 23. Christmas week brought higher profile releases such as The Callisto Protocol on December 24 and Disco Elysium The Final Cut on December 25. More recent additions include We Were Here Together on December 26, Cassette Beasts on December 27, and Skald Against the Black Priory on December 28.
