Epic Games Store has officially revealed its final two mystery games for the January 1 to January 7 window, confirming Wildgate and Total War: Three Kingdoms as Mystery Games 16 and 17. With this announcement, Epic’s Holiday Sale 2025 mystery giveaway has reached its conclusion, closing out one of the platform’s most expansive end-of-year free game campaigns to date.
Wildgate is a multiplayer PvPvE extraction shooter that blends competitive combat with cooperative survival mechanics. Developed by Moonshot Games, a studio formed by former Blizzard developers, the game launched on July 22, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The title centers on four-player crews navigating a hostile region known as The Reach, where teams must secure valuable artifacts while repairing their ships and defending against rival players. The design emphasizes fast decision-making and unpredictable encounters, as opposing crews can steal progress just as quickly as environmental threats can derail a run.
Wildgate entered its second major season following the December 18 Winter Festival update. That update introduced proximity chat and new environmental hazards, expanding both player interaction and moment-to-moment tension. With a listed price of $29.99 prior to the giveaway, Wildgate represents a relatively recent and substantial addition to Epic’s free lineup, even if some users may be encountering it for the first time.
Total War: Three Kingdoms serves as a sharp contrast in both genre and tone. Originally released on May 23, 2019, the strategy title is the twelfth mainline entry in Creative Assembly’s long-running Total War series. Set during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, the game is known for its deep diplomacy systems, large-scale battles, and hero-driven mechanics. While official development concluded in 2021 after the Fates Divided DLC, the game remains a notable entry in the franchise.
Throughout 2025, Total War: Three Kingdoms resurfaced in discussion as Creative Assembly marked the series’ 25th anniversary. During the December 4, 2025, Anniversary Showcase, the studio confirmed that the Three Kingdoms setting would remain a standalone pillar while future historical titles move to a new proprietary engine. Although no further updates are planned for this game, its inclusion as a free title offers a complete and content-rich experience.
These final reveals cap off a holiday promotion that began on December 11 with Hogwarts Legacy as a week-long free offering. From there, Epic transitioned into its daily mystery game format on December 18, distributing a wide mix of indie titles and high-profile releases through the end of the year. With Wildgate and Total War: Three Kingdoms now confirmed, the mystery phase has officially ended, setting the stage for Epic Games Store to return to its standard weekly giveaway schedule.
