Epic Games Store has revealed Paradise Killer as its free mystery game for December 22, marking the sixth title in its ongoing holiday giveaway campaign. The game will be available to claim starting December 22 at 9:00 AM PST and will remain free for a 24 hour period before the promotion rotates to the next mystery title.
Paradise Killer is a narrative-driven investigation game set on an island that exists outside conventional reality. The story centers on Paradise Island, a place that regenerates every few millennia as part of an elaborate system designed by a rogue human civilization. This society worships dead alien gods, releasing psychic energy in hopes of resurrecting them. However, that same energy attracts demons, ultimately leading to corruption and the destruction of each island iteration. The process is meant to culminate in a flawless version known as Perfect 25, though events do not go according to plan.
On the eve of the island’s rebirth, the ruling Council is murdered, and Paradise itself is effectively destroyed. In response, Lady Love Dies, an investigator exiled for her obsession with truth, is summoned back to solve what is described as the crime to end all crimes. Players are tasked with uncovering facts, interrogating suspects, and determining whether truth and evidence truly align. It is a setup that deliberately challenges certainty, and that uncertainty is very much the point.
Gameplay places a strong emphasis on player choice. There are multiple possible killers and several ways to construct a convincing case. Players decide who to accuse, gather evidence, record testimonies, and ultimately take their case to trial. Even after securing a conviction, the game raises the question of whether the mystery has genuinely been solved or merely resolved in a convenient way. Everyone on the island has something to hide, and those personal secrets often complicate the investigation.
The version available on Epic Games Store includes the updated and enhanced release of Paradise Killer. This edition features new music, additional quests and rewards, extra collectibles, new mysterious beings, performance improvements, and an optional HUDless mode. It also includes visual upgrades such as DX12 support, ray tracing, and advanced upscaling options using NVIDIA DLSS and AMD SR, making the island look sharper and more surreal than before.
Paradise Killer follows Sorry We’re Closed, which was offered on December 21, and continues Epic Games Store’s pattern of mixing well-known releases with more experimental titles. Previous mystery games in the promotion have included Hogwarts Legacy, Jotunnslayer Hordes of Hel, Eternights, and Blood West.
