The development of Xbox Game Studios and Rare’s action adventure game, Everwild, is coming along well, based on the latest report.
During the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast on YouTube, co-host Jez Corden had a brief update to share on Rare’s action adventure title. He has heard from his sources that the game’s development is going well, though he didn’t have anything to add with respect to its release window.
Furthermore, Corden stated that Rare has now finalized the core gameplay loop for Everwild, and that we should be seeing it sometime in the future. Going by his statement, it appears that the game is still fairly early in development, given that the core gameplay loop has only now made it past the iteration process. As such, we aren’t likely to hear about it anytime this year in 2024.
For the uninitiated, Rare’s Everwild is set for release on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S consoles. It has been described as a third-person adventure game with elements inspired by God games, while more recent reports suggest that it may not feature combat. Development began in 2014 and involved several years of experimental prototyping before it was officially announced. The game was revealed during the Xbox X019 event in November, 2019. Gary Napper, formerly the lead designer for Alien: Isolation, has since joined Rare as Everwild’s design director.
In June, 2021, known insider Jeff Grubb mentioned that Everwild had been rebooted and was still far from release, with a new target date set for the year 2023. Other reports further confirmed this information after the game’s creative director, Simon Woodroffe, had left the studio, with the release optimistically aimed for 2024. It was later rumored that Everwild would resemble a game like Viva Piñata, rather than the survival game hinted at in earlier trailers.
