Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle has become the most record-breaking anime film of all time since its July 18, 2025, release in Japan. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki and produced by Ufotable, the film adapts the highly anticipated “Infinity Castle” arc from Koyoharu Gotouge’s original manga and serves as the first entry in a planned trilogy. Distributed by Aniplex and Toho in Japan, and internationally by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Releasing, the movie has drawn worldwide acclaim and unprecedented box office success.

The film has grossed an estimated $615.7 million globally, ranking as the seventh-highest grossing film of 2025 and surpassing major Hollywood franchises such as Superman, Fantastic Four, and Mission Impossible. In doing so, it has become both the highest-grossing anime feature and the most successful Japanese film in history. In the United States alone, it achieved a record-breaking debut, earning roughly $70 million during its opening weekend, the biggest launch ever for an anime title. It also became the first anime film to surpass $100 million at the domestic U.S. box office, marking a significant milestone for the medium.

Japan contributed heavily to the movie’s success, where Infinity Castle set a new record for the highest single-day revenue with over ¥2.0 billion (approximately $14 million). On its opening day, it earned ¥1.64 billion ($11 million), the largest ever in Japanese box office history. Over its first weekend, the film collected ¥5.52 billion ($37 million) across three days, and ¥7.31 billion ($50 million) across four days, including a holiday, setting new records for best opening weekend grosses in the country.

International markets further boosted the film’s performance. Box office results include $118.2 million from the U.S. and Canada, $237.2 million from Japan, $38.9 million from South Korea, $13.6 million from France, and $16.6 million from Mexico. Other strong showings came from Germany, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, and several Southeast Asian regions, with each contributing millions to the global tally.

Critics have largely praised Infinity Castle for its spectacular animation, high-intensity action sequences, and emotional storytelling. While some noted that the pacing occasionally faltered, the film was widely regarded as a faithful and cinematic adaptation of one of the manga’s most dramatic arcs. Its success follows the legacy of 2020’s Mugen Train, which previously held the record as the most successful anime film ever, and it sets a strong precedent for the trilogy’s remaining entries.

With Demon Slayer Infinity Castle now holding the record as the highest-grossing anime film of all time, anticipation is already building for the next installment in the trilogy. Those who haven’t seen it in theaters will have to wait a little longer, as the distributor Crunchyroll has confirmed it won’t be streamed until 2026 at the earliest.
