The combat Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games’ upcoming action role-playing game, Fable, is similar to that of The Witcher 3.
During the latest episode of The Xbox Two podcast, co-host Jez Corden mentioned that he had the opportunity to see some alpha gameplay footage from Fable. He isn’t sure whether it was from a recent or an earlier build of the game. As per him, the game looked “fantastic”, and he could tell that it contained the CD Projekt Red’s DNA.
Corden pointed out that Playground Games had hired some former CD Project Red developers to work on Fable, among whom is the combat designer for The Witcher 3. He clarified that he didn’t suggest that Fable’s combat is exactly the same as that of The Witcher 3, but it’s possible to tell that several elements exhibit the same degree of polish, including the seamless hack and slash into an execution, the dodging, and rolling.
He speculated that if the Fable footage he saw is from an earlier build, it likely looks even better now. He further mentioned that the gameplay demo he saw also featured mixing of different attack types, such as the player character pulling out a bow and arrow and dropping spells. He mentioned a spell that lifted enemies and slammed them back to the ground. He also recalled seeing a giant chicken enemy type. He also talked about seeing a variety of weapons, including a big malice, which was used to swing around and hit multiple enemies at once. He described a scene from the Fable demo where the player character lures a werewolf out of its lair with eggs, chips, and other edible items.
Regarding the main character, Corden stated that he heard some time ago about Fable featuring dual protagonists. The game will likely offer players the choice of choosing between a male and female character.
