The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rating for Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games’ upcoming action role-playing game, Fable, may have been revealed early.
In a preview video for the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct, footage of Fable is shown alongside text stating, “Some Rating Pending titles are likely be rated MATURE 17+”, suggesting that the upcoming action role-playing game may receive an “M” for “Mature” rating. It is the only title shown in the trailer that is classified as such. The other two games, Forza horizon 6 and Beast of reincarnation, are rated “E” for “Everyone” and “T” for “Teen”, respectively.
It’s worth mentioning that the Xbox Developer Direct will also feature a fourth unannounced game, and the rating message seen in the preview video may also be applicable to it.
During a recent episode of VGC podcast, co-host Andy Robinson claimed that Fable is set to launch day and date on PS5 alongside Xbox and PC. The information is based on what he’s been told by sources familiar with the matter. According to him, developer Playground Games has a PS5 version of the long-awaited action role-playing game in development for quite some time. The announcement may happen at the Developer Direct.
Microsoft recently confirmed that the Xbox Developer Direct showcase will return on January 22, 2026, offering an in-depth look at several major Xbox titles scheduled for release later this year. The broadcast will feature extended gameplay footage and developer commentary for Fable, Forza Horizon 6, and Beast of Reincarnation, with each segment presented directly by the studios behind the games. The upcoming presentation is the fourth in the Developer Direct series, arriving during Xbox’s 25th anniversary year. According to Microsoft, the event is designed to provide a closer look not only at the games themselves, but also at the creative teams shaping them.
