Fable May Face Internal Delay Amid GTA 6 Release Concerns, Rumor Claims

by Salal Awan

A new rumor suggests that Fable may have been internally delayed as Xbox evaluates its release strategy. The claim comes from Jeff Grubb (via Idle Sloth), who shared this information in a recent podcast.

According to Grubb, “I’ll say that I’ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally. That doesn’t mean that it’s coming out next year. Apparently they’re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of GTA6.” He added that if the game slips beyond the release window of Grand Theft Auto 6, it could move into December, which in turn may increase the likelihood of a delay into 2027.

The report points to potential scheduling concerns rather than development issues, with publishers often aiming to avoid direct competition with major releases. GTA 6 is widely expected to be one of the largest launches in the industry, making it a significant factor in release planning for other titles.

Fable is currently scheduled for Autumn 2026 and is being developed by Playground Games as a reboot of the long-running franchise. The game is set in the fantasy world of Albion and centers on a new protagonist navigating a story shaped by player choices, including a morality system that influences how the world responds.

Microsoft has not commented on the rumor, and no official change to Fable’s release window has been announced.
