A remaster of Bethesda Game Studios’ 2008 action role-playing game, Fallout 3, is planned for release at some point in the future.

Known insider Nate the Hate took to Twitter/X to respond to an individual who asked him about the legitimacy of an earlier rumor regarding a mysterious countdown on the official Amazon Prime Video website (as seen in the image below) having something to do with the reveal of a potential Fallout 3 remaster. In response, he claimed that a Fallout 3 remaster is indeed planned, though he isn’t certain of its reveal window.

Back in November, 2025, during an interview with GQ, Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard confirmed that, in addition to the development of The Elder Scrolls VI, the studio continues to support Fallout 76 and “other things”. According to rumors, one of these other projects is a remaster of Fallout 3. Meanwhile, as per Windows Central’s Jez Corden, remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are planned for release.

Fallout 3 was originally released on October 28, 2008, for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Set in the ruins of the Washington, D.C. region two centuries after a nuclear apocalypse, the game follows a 19-year-old protagonist who leaves the safety of a vault to search for their missing father. Players are free to explore a large open world, take part in combat using a wide range of weapons, and interact with non-player characters through dialogue choices that influence how the game world responds to them.

As the third main entry in the Fallout series, it was the first title produced by Bethesda after acquiring the franchise from Interplay Entertainment. Lead designer and writer Emil Pagliarulo aimed for a grim and oppressive tone, drawing inspiration from the dialogue style of the original Fallout. Executive producer Todd Howard envisioned a hybrid combat system that blended real-time action with role-playing elements to appeal to fans of both shooters and RPGs. The Washington metropolitan area was selected as the setting partly because Bethesda’s studio is located nearby in Rockville, Maryland.
