Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Ken Ending Sparks Speculation of New Capcom vs. SNK Crossover

by Salal Awan

A new wave of speculation has begun in the fighting game community following the release of Ken’s guest DLC story mode in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. In what initially appears to be a standard post-battle narrative exchange, the ending sequence features a conversation between Ken and Terry Bogard that is fueling widespread theories about a possible revival of the Capcom vs. SNK series.

The exchange between the two veteran fighters takes place through stylized static animation, typical of Fatal Fury’s storytelling style. What has caught players’ attention is the language used throughout their conversation, which is laden with subtle allusions to cross-franchise encounters and mutual universes. Metro City and Southtown—locations tied to Street Fighter and Fatal Fury, respectively—are mentioned, suggesting an intentional narrative overlap.

More compelling are the specific hypothetical matchups that Ken and Terry casually discuss, invoking names from both Capcom and SNK’s rosters. These include dream battles such as Zangief versus Tizoc, Juri against Dong Hwan, Luke facing off with Rock, and Kyokugen fighters challenging Ryu. While the exchange is non-committal, the direct nature of the references makes it difficult to dismiss as mere fan service.

The most telling moment, however, arrives when Ken casually remarks, “Damn, man. Staring you guys down again. It’s going to be pure chaos.” This line in particular has drawn interest due to its apparent reference to SvC Chaos, a 2003 fighting game developed by SNK that featured characters from both Capcom and SNK’s universes. In contrast, Capcom vs. SNK—the more well-known entry—was Capcom’s own take on the crossover formula. The suggestion of “chaos” has led some fans to believe that SNK could be preparing a sequel or spiritual successor to SvC Chaos, this time perhaps with a stronger narrative and promotional alignment between both publishers.

It is worth noting that both Capcom and SNK have rekindled collaborative efforts in recent years through character crossovers. Terry Bogard is already a playable character in Street Fighter 6, while Ken’s inclusion in City of the Wolves now represents a reciprocal guest appearance. Such mutual exchanges have historically preceded larger joint ventures, lending credibility to the theory that something more ambitious may be on the horizon.

At this stage, neither Capcom nor SNK has formally announced any new crossover title. However, the inclusion of such a specific and reflective dialogue within a story mode cutscene may suggest that the developers are laying narrative groundwork for a future collaboration. Whether this is simply a nod to long-time fans or an intentional teaser remains to be seen.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launched in April 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
