Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series Launch Date Announced for PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Square Enix has finally announced a release date for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, along with some newly confirmed features.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is a brand new series from Square Enix that aims to bring the classic Final Fantasy games in their original preserved form but improved with modern controls, quality-of-life improvements, and other tweaks to enhance the experience. These remastered releases were initially launched for PC and smartphones and will now make the jump to consoles.

New Features in Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster for Consoles

According to Square Enix, these games will come with the following improvements that were not present in the PC and smartphone versions:

  • Change soundtracks: The Pixel Remaster series features utterly superb new orchestral arrangements of FINAL FANTASY I – VI’s soundtracks. However, we know some of you may want to recreate the original experience of playing these games, so you’ll be able to switch between the original and rearranged soundtracks.
  • Change fonts: The console release of FINAL FANTASY I – VI gives you the option to switch between two different fonts: the default font and a new pixel-based font that recreates the feel of the original games.
  • Turn off random encounters: Sometimes you just want to explore in peace, so a feature in the Pixel Remaster games lets you turn off random encounters completely. This means you can roam the world without being harassed by monsters. That also means you won’t get stronger, so be careful how you use it…
  • Adjust experience: Speaking of getting stronger, want to speed things up a little? Boost features let you adjust the experience gained by up to four times. Perfect if you want an easier run through the games.

One of the most common complaints against the game was that the fonts weren’t suitable. They clashed with the aesthetics of the 16-bit artwork. This issue has been resolved in the newly announced versions, featuring the ability to change fonts. It is also possible to turn off random encounters or adjust the experience, catering to fans who dislike grinding in classic games.

The price for this Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection has been revealed, and it is relatively expensive. If you want to acquire all six games at launch, you can get them for $74.99. Although they provide immense value for money, it would have been logical for Square Enix to sell them for $59.99, but they seem to have stuck with the original pricing of these games.

The entire collection of six games within the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series can be purchased digitally on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch platforms. Customers have the option to buy each title individually or obtain the entire collection through the Final Fantasy I-VI Bundle.

The Nintendo Switch version is currently available for pre-order. You can receive two themed wallpapers for each game if you purchase them before May 25, 2023. For access to all 12 themed wallpapers, opt for the complete series in the Final Fantasy I-VI Bundle.

The PlayStation 4 version will be available to purchase at a later date. Digital purchases of the games on PlayStation 4 between April 20, 2023, and May 25, 2023, will include a Theme and Avatar for each title acquired. For those who choose to purchase the complete series in the Final Fantasy I-VI Bundle, a collection of six Themes and six Avatars will be provided, corresponding to each game.

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series will be released on April 19, 2023, for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
