Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been officially rated for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, signaling the game’s upcoming arrival on additional platforms.
The ESRB listing confirms the title is rated T for Teen with descriptors including Blood, Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco, and Violence. The rating summary describes the game as an action role-playing experience in which players follow Cloud Strife on a quest to save the planet from an overarching threat.
According to the board, players explore large fantasy environments, undertake missions, and engage in melee-driven combat against monsters and human soldiers. Weapons such as swords, staffs, firearms, and magic spells are used throughout battles, with combat accompanied by impact sounds, cries of pain, and explosions. Cutscenes depict additional violent moments, including characters being impaled or slashed, sometimes shown in slow motion, as well as instances of gunfire and bladed attacks. Some scenes include splatters or pools of blood.
The ESRB summary also references suggestive character designs and dialogue, including camera close-ups of outfits, as well as depictions of alcohol consumption and smoking.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth originally launched for PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024, followed by a Windows PC release on January 23, 2025.
