The airship in part 3 of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will allow players to fly freely around the game’s world map.
During their presentation at the G-STAR 2024 conference, titled “Final Fantasy VII: The challenges of creating a timeless game and its remake project” (via), Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi talked about reviving the traditional Final Fantasy world map with Rebirth, and how they were pleased with the end result. For the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, the creators are looking to give players the freedom to fly around freely across its world map using the Highwind airship.
The creators of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy mentioned that the plot for the third game has been completed, the concept has been decided, and the development team is already working on it. The importance of the concept was also discussed during the presentation, but the concept for the third game was saved for a later date.
However, Hamaguchi did have one important aspect to discuss in relation to the third entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. He talked about how Final Fantasy VII Rebirth provided a vast world map to players. In part 3, the Highwind airship will play an important role in exploring said world map. This led to the need to allow players to experience the world from a higher perspective. He further mentioned that the development team will not cheat with the system for the airship, and will instead take on the challenge of offering players the freedom of being able to fly around freely across the world map.
Previously, during the “Summoning a Masterpiece” live panel event from Boulevard City in Riyadh, Hamaguchi revealed that Part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will feature new combat mechanics as well as the return of fan-favorite characters. Read about it here.
