The development of part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is “progressing well”, according to the game’s director Naoki Hamaguchi.
Famitsu has returned with its annual end-of-the-year feature, where it interviews well-known people from the game industry for their end-of-the-year comments on the game that has grabbed their attention, the projects they’re currently involved in, and their aspirations for the coming year.
In his interview, Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed how Final Fantasy Rebirth attracted a lot of attention at various awards in 2024. With regards to his aspirations for the next year, he hopes to take on new challenges to further expand the Final Fantasy VII fan base, as he continues to work on the third installment in the Remake trilogy.
Meanwhile, the game that grabbed Hamaguchi’s attention is none other than Grand Theft Auto VI. He said that the whole world is paying attention to the upcoming open world action game in 2025. With GTA V being such a huge hit, he believes that the development team at Rockstar Games must be under a lot of pressure to deliver a successful new entry. He added that he’s rooting for the developers from the sidelines.
As for an update on the development of part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Hamaguchi stated that the team, including himself, is currently working hard on the game. According to him, development is “progressing smoothly”, though he asked fans to wait a little longer for any new information to be revealed.
It makes sense that the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director doesn’t have much to share on Part 3 at this time, given that it hasn’t even been a year since Rebirth’s release. He had the same update to share during an AMA earlier this month, where he said that the third installment is “progressing smoothly”.
