Development on Final Fantasy XVI is almost complete and a new trailer is coming soon, according to the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida. He revealed this during the NieR Re[in]carnation stream, along with some other interesting tidbits regarding the latest entry in the Final Fantasy series.
Yoshida went on to discuss that certain factors led to a delay in the announcement of the new trailer. The trailer itself is ready and should drop sometime soon. He also mentioned that the development team worked hard to polish and debug the game. A new trailer, possibly accompanied by a release date would certainly please eager fans of the longstanding RPG series.
Previously, during an interview, Yoshida discussed that, unlike an online game where a large number of people play simultaneously, single-player games focus on an engrossing and immersive plot. He believes Final Fantasy XVI has developed into a complex narrative. As a single-player game, he hopes it will seamlessly blend the story and gameplay like never before in a Final Fantasy game.
Since its debut at the PlayStation Games Showcase in 2019, the game has been missing in action. It was originally scheduled for a 2022 release, but various factors including the pandemic resulted in a delay. As of now, the game has only been announced for the PS5. Hiroshi Takai, who previously worked on The Last Remnant, is directing Final Fantasy XVI.
Based on the initial gameplay footage revealed by Square Enix, Final Fantasy XVI is an action RPG featuring a fast-paced battle system. The game is set in Valisthea, a mythical planet where people live peacefully owing to the Mothercrystals, which are crystal mountains. The Grand Duchy of Rosaria, the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmekian Republic, the Iron Kingdom, and the Crystalline Dominion are the six factions that rule the planet. The Eikons, summoned monsters controlled by or appearing through people known as Dominants, are a significant aspect of the story.
