The creative director and producer of Square Enix’s action role-playing game, Final Fantasy XVI, have hinted at the existence of a Nintendo Switch 2 port.
During the latest episode of Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer on YouTube, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida and creative director Kazutoyo Maehiro hinted that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the game is currently in development. After they finished showing the game in action on the Xbox Series X|S, Yoshida mentioned, “Just Nintendo-san left”, to which Maehiro responded by saying, “I will do my best.”

While this isn’t really a confirmation, the Final Fantasy XVI producer and creative director wouldn’t bring up the possibility of the game receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 version if they weren’t at least planning on working on a port.
Final Fantasy XVI was designed for the PS5, and an Xbox Series X port was likely relatively easy for the development team at Square Enix’s Creative Studio III. Porting to the Nintendo Switch 2 would undoubtedly require some optimizations and cutbacks. That said, the game also runs on the less powerful current-gen Xbox variant, the Series S. We’re likely to see some further graphical cutbacks to get the game up and running on Nintendo’s new console. DLSS will likely also come into play in order to improve its image quality as much as possible.
In Graphics Mode, the Xbox Series X version of Final Fantasy XVI runs at a resolution of roughly 1224p at 30 fps. When switching to Frame Rate mode, it drops as low as 720p and targets 60 fps. The Xbox Series S version, by contrast, only offers a single mode running at approximately 792p resolution and targeting 30 fps, with reductions in detail. This performance profile falls more in line with expectations for the less powerful Xbox console.
Final Fantasy XVI is available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
